I bought this eBook after reading a short synopsis of it in the Wall Street Journal. As a presidential history buff and huge Lincoln fan, this book humanizes the presidency. The author does an excellent job of laying out the hazards of transition and detailing the vulnerable state of our country at the out break of war. The eight weeks of Lincoln's presidency is the journey of him becoming the hero we know him as. There is no preparation course for the presidency, and Lincoln surely was not equipped when he was first sworn in. It was a process, and ultimately Lincoln developed into the hero of the republic in which we praise to this day.I also loved all of the facts about inner cabinet disputes, and the pressing need of securing allies both within the White House and border states around Washington, DC.A must read for any Lincoln fan!!
