When you've read every single thing that James Herriot ever wrote, and watched every film and television adaptation of his stories, worn the tea-towels thin and are left with an aching void to fill, there's this. The author is the son of the real James Herriot. He has his father's voice and way of relating anecdotes. Fear not - the real James Herriot is as lovely as you hoped he was, just as the real Siegfried is as eccentric and the real Tristan as charming. There's only more depth here, a little bit of unpicking stories that were merged to create the books you've already no doubt read, and a few sad passages of things that were left out. But overall, it's a very nice extra helping of something lovely.
